ONE YEAR LATER: A Look at Our Resident / Supervisee Program

It has been a remarkable first year for our residents and supervisees at The Women’s Center.
Since launching the program in July 2025, a lot of progress has been made, and we wanted to share our accomplishments. For the first few months, recruitment was in full swing with four residents and supervisees hired to participate in the program. And they have been living out our mission in a very real, very hands-on way.
A Quick Look at What our Residents/Supervisees Have Been Up to:
- Carrying full caseloads and providing consistent, thoughtful care to clients one session at a time
- Running a Separation and Divorce group, holding space for people navigating one of life’s harder chapters
- Facilitating an Over 60 group, because transitions do not stop at any age
- Offering counseling and support to survivors at Artemis House, a local domestic violence shelter
- Supporting women through the journey from pregnancy into new parenthood, a transition that can feel both joyful and overwhelming
- Attending monthly in-services, monthly group supervision, and a monthly clinical meeting
- Attended an all-day maternal health workshop, where The Women’s Center staffed a table to connect with the broader community
There is a lot of meaningful work happening simultaneously. Each of these spaces requires real skill, real presence, and a genuine willingness to show up for people at vulnerable moments in their lives. We are deeply proud of how our residents and supervisees are rising to meet these challenges every single day.
And it is not just about what they are doing for clients. This program is also very much about their own growth as clinicians. One of our residents put it in a way that really says it all:

That kind of growth does not happen by accident. It takes a supportive environment, thoughtful supervision, and people who genuinely care about our clients.
The Women’s Center and the community are fortunate to have these four in our corner. We look forward to seeing their continued growth and their positive impact on the people they serve.
We are also deeply grateful to the Virginia Health Care Foundation for their generous grant that made this program possible.
