SUMMARY:When Change is Important- and Still Does Not Happen
DESCRIPTION:You’ve tried motivation\, accountability\, reminders\, and discipline. And still\, it doesn’t stick. This workshop starts with a liberating truth: This is not a willpower problem. \nInstead\, there are hidden forces—often invisible to us—that quietly work against change in order to protect us. Until those forces are understood\, real change remains frustratingly out of reach. \nIn this interactive workshop\, you’ll learn a proven\, research-based process that helps you: \n● Identify what’s really blocking change (beyond habits and surface behaviors) \n● Understand the hidden commitments and assumptions keeping you stuck \n● Replace self-criticism with clarity and compassion \n● Create a practical path forward that works with your internal system—not against it \nIt’s a powerful framework for sustainable change\, especially for thoughtful\, capable people who are tired of feeling stuck despite their best intentions. \nYou’ll leave with: \n· A clear map of why change has been so difficult \n· A new way to think about resistance (in yourself and others) \n· A concrete strategy you can begin using immediately\nIf you’ve ever said\, “I know what to do—I just don’t do it\,” this workshop is for you. \nAbout the Presenters \nKari Meyer is a leadership coach who partners with leaders across business and nonprofit sectors to navigate complexity\, change\, and high-stakes challenges. With more than 35 years of leadership experience\, she helps individuals and teams build confidence\, gain clarity\, and achieve success on their own terms. \nMost recently\, Kari led a multi-state team of 50 real estate professionals\, overseeing $300M+ in annual sales and driving 30% year-over-year growth. Previously\, she was an Associate Partner at Accenture and later co-founded a strategic planning firm serving national trade and professional associations. \nBased in Washington\, DC\, Kari enjoys improv comedy\, hiking in the Shenandoah Mountains\, and time with her three adult children. \nJanet Syme Piller is a leadership coach who offers personalized coaching for leaders stepping into new roles\, rethinking their approach\, or exploring what’s next\, particularly women and professionals in transition. \nWith more than 30 years of leadership experience across international finance\, government\, and nonprofit sectors\, Janet is a leadership coach who partners with individuals navigating change and transition. Drawing on two decades in senior roles at the World Bank\, she brings a calm\, strategic\, and cross-cultural perspective to helping clients lead with clarity\, confidence\, and authenticity. \nA California native\, now based in Northern Virginia\, Janet enjoys singing\, reading\, doing anything outdoors and spending time with her family. \nPLEASE NOTE: WORKSHOP IS IN PERSON AT THE WOMENS CENTER IN VIENNA\, VA

SUMMARY:Easing into Retirement
DESCRIPTION:This workshop is geared for individuals who are contemplating retiring and who may be a bit afraid of retiring. It’s about taking the first steps. And second steps for those that have retired and are stuck\, perhaps even bored. It’s about building quality and joy into retirement. The session will offer tips\, ideas\, and exercises from first-hand experience\, interviews with retirees\, and several books written by experts. You will explore creating your own guidelines and finding your retirement style. \nWhile financial planning is a critical step to a happy retirement\, this workshop does NOT address retirement investment strategies. \nAs this is during dinner\, please feel free to bring your food and drink. \nAbout the Presenter \nRebecca Holderness recently retired after 40+ years in leadership roles in business development\, trade shows\, and marketing at SAIC and Leidos. Fearing retirement\, Rebecca kept postponing the date (by four years!) until both a pending company reorganization and a health challenge made her rethink the timing. Once she took the retirement plunge\, she wondered why she’d waited so long! While volunteering and facilitating workshops for The Women’s Center\, Rebecca offered to create a new group session designed to help others who may be timid of taking the plunge or who may not be feeling fulfilled in their retirement. \nPLEASE NOTE: WORKSHOP IS IN PERSON AT THE WOMENS CENTER IN VIENNA\, VA
