SUMMARY:Discover your Conflict Styles
DESCRIPTION:Do you wish you could improve your response to tense conflict situations? While your emotional reaction may feel automatic\, with increased awareness and practice\, you can choose how you respond in conflict situations. \nIn this workshop\, Laura Bowles\, Certified Mediator and Conflict Coach\, shares five styles for approaching conflict\, based on the Style Matters conflict styles inventory. Participants will take the assessment prior to the workshop\, learn about their own patterns in conflict and where they come from\, and identify strategies for leveraging each style wisely and effectively. Participants will also learn about how emotions impact approaches to conflict\, and will leave with self-awareness and stress management tools to support a healthy sense of well-being\, even in conflict. \nThe workshop covers: \n● What impacts conflict styles \n● Style Matters: Kraybill’s Conflict Styles framework \n● Understanding your conflict style \n● Recognizing how your emotions may shift your response to conflict \n● Strategies and tools for self-awareness and stress management in conflict \nDates are Part 1: Sept 10\, 2025 and Part 2: Sept 17\, 2025 from 6pm-7:30pm via ZOOM \nAbout the Presenter \nLaura Bowles is the owner of The New Normal\, LLC. As a Career\, Leadership and Conflict Coach\, she partners with individuals as they move through life’s many chapters and define success for themselves\, both in the personal and professional space. Laura believes that we each bring a distinct set of leadership skills with us when we show up at work and at home. Recognizing\, cultivating\, and embracing one’s unique style is the path to thriving and flourishing. \nLaura draws on her education\, nonprofit\, and government experience as a parent educator\, employment counselor\, program manager\, and certified mediator to provide coaching and training for individuals and groups. She earned her undergraduate degree at the College of William and Mary\, trained as a leadership coach at George Mason University\, is credentialed as an Associate Certified Coach through the International Coaching Federation and is certified as a mediator through the Supreme Court of Virginia. \nPLEASE NOTE: THIS EVENT IS ON ZOOM. SUMMARY:Coping with Stress
DESCRIPTION:Stress is defined as the feeling of mental or emotional or physical strain/tension. It can come from many sources such as demanding circumstances\, positive/negative challenges or just plain frustration. Everyone has experienced stress at some point in their life. Stress can be short lived or chronic. Some people do not even realize that they are stressed until health issues occur. \nJoin this workshop to learn what stress is and what stress isn’t. Learn strategies to prevent and manage stress symptoms. How well are you managing your stress? \nPLEASE NOTE: This workshop is on ZOOM. The Zoom link is in the confirmation email. \nAbout the Presenter \nDianna Abilmona is a Certified Health & Wellness Coach and Human Resources professional. A Northern Virginia native\, she attended Marymount University. After graduation\, it became clear to her—and others—that her spirit and skills shined when she connected with people and helped individuals. This realization translated into a long and successful career in Human Resources\, where she worked across industries\, from international hospitality brands to the renowned home furnishings company IKEA. \nAt IKEA\, Dianna held the role of People and Culture Manager\, overseeing the entire Human Resources division. She used basic coaching skills to enhance employee development\, improve performance\, and support various HR functions\, such as conflict resolution and communication. She also became very familiar with burnout and stress and their impact on personal and professional performance. \nCommitted to enhancing her expertise through direct education\, Dianna completed a Health & Wellness Coaching Certification from Georgetown University in Washington\, D.C. and is a National Board Certified Coach through the National Board for Health & Wellness Coaches. Her next step is becoming an Associate Certified Coach through the International Coaching Federation.

SUMMARY:WTH is going on with my teenager?!
DESCRIPTION:There are different issues that teens face every day. What is appropriate behavior compared to inappropriate behavior? This workshop will address these questions and give guidance on navigating the mental health system. You will also learn what resources are available to you and your teen. There will be a Question & Answer period with discussion. \nAbout the Presenter \nAlex Kuo is a licensed clinical social worker in the state of Maryland. She practices at Chesapeake Neuro-Behavioral Health in Ownings\, Maryland where she provides talk therapy with the option of adding neuromodulation. She has practiced in the range of mental health services from emergency psychiatric services\, inpatient behavioral health\, and outpatient services. Alex sees clients of any gender or age at this point in time but has specialized in therapy with adolescent girls in her past experience. \nAs she is currently more in the “toddler stage” of her personal life\, Alex continues her passion to help girls\, women\, and their families achieve a sense of belonging and worth to achieve whatever they set their mind to. \nIn her spare time\, Alex is an Information & Referral team member for The Women’s Center. \nPLEASE NOTE: WORKSHOP IS IN PERSON AT THE WOMENS CENTER IN VIENNA\, VA
