Volunteer

The Women’s Center was founded forty years ago by women who wrapped their arms around neighbors who were facing some of life’s most difficult challenges, and walked with them on their journey into a brighter future.
Today, this legacy of compassionate response continues at The Women’s Center. We welcome your gifts and talents to help us meet our mission. From our trained Information and Referral volunteers, to the army of people it takes to mount a Leadership Conference for over 700 people every year, we couldn’t provide essential counseling, support, advocacy and education without the effort of our volunteers.

What Do Volunteers Do?

Volunteers at The Women’s Center are part of our Information & Referral Program (I&R). When a person calls The Center, the first contact they have is with an I&R volunteer who is trained to:

• provide information about The Center and its services
• assist callers with resources
• handle crisis calls, and
• assist walk-in clients

Becoming an I&R volunteer is a great way to learn about The Center and get some first-hand experience in the field. I&R volunteers are responsible for a weekly 4-hour shift,

Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 1 pm, or 1 pm – 5 pm.

If none of these shifts are available, volunteers may sign up to cover shifts as needed.

How to Become an I&R Volunteer

If you are interested in helping The Women’s Center by being part of our I&R program the first step is to submit the Volunteer Interest form.

The information/Referral Program offers training opportunities to volunteers. Also, the volunteers will be able to attend workshops offered by The Center.

Other Ways to Volunteer

The Women’s Center also needs volunteers to:
• assist with our workshops
• staff resource tables at networking and community events
• assist with our annual special events (Gala & the Leadership Conference)
